Ky Montez, soprano, began singing opera when she was five years old in the children’s chorus of Taconic Opera’s productions of Mefistofele and La bohème. Her first leading role was Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte with the New York Opera Conservatory. Since then, she has performed Rosina in Barber of Seville, Mimi in La bohème, and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni—all in New York. She has also performed the Countess in Marriage of Figaro in Idaho, and this past summer, she sang Lucia in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Leila in Bizet’s Pearl Fishers. She made her debut with the Taconic Opera in April of 2021, singing Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata outdoors in a football field during the pandemic. In the fall of 2021, she performed the title role of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. Upcoming engagements include the lead roles in Puccini’s Il Tabarro and Suor Angelica, the title role of Bellini’s Norma, and Massenet’s Manon. She recently sang the solos in Duruflé’s Requiem and is returning later in the year to Croton, New York to sing the soprano solos in Handel’s Messiah. In addition to music, Ms. Montez is a passionate artist and writer.
